Q: What benefits come with being a Haafiz?
Respond,
Praise be to Allah. One can learn to memorize the Qur’an. If someone follows that, they will receive tremendous honor and recompense from Allah, which will elevate their standing in Paradise to a degree that is in line with what they have committed to memory from the Book of Allah. “Recite and become more esteemed; recite as you once did in the world, for the final verse you recite will determine your rank.
The statements of The Prophet (may Allah grant him peace and blessings) are attributed to ‘Abdallah ibn ‘AMR by Abu Dawood (1464) and Al-Tirmidhi (2914). In al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 5/218, no. 2240, Al-Albaani classified this hadeeth as saheeh. Afterwards, he said:
Remember the words of The Prophet (may Allah grant him peace and blessings) “The one who knows more Qur’aan should lead the people in prayer,” which refers to the individual with the greatest amount of memorization.
This implies that the individual who is called a “companion of the Qur’an” is the one who has memorization of it. Despite what some people might think,
It is not how much recitation one does on that day that will decide one’s status distinction in Paradise, but rather the degree of memorizing one possesses in this life. This clearly demonstrates the value of the memorizer of the Qur’an, the hafiz.
but only if he does it for Allah’s sake and not for his own or materialistic gain. If not, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah upon him) declared: “Those who have memorized the Qur’an are among those who comprise the majority of the hypocrites within my ummah.”
The Prophet (may Allah grant him peace and blessings) is reported by Al-Bukhaari (4937) to have said ‘Aa’ishah: “The likeness of the one who reads and memorizes the Qur’an is that he is with the righteous honourable scribes.”
This claim highlights the merits of the hafiz who commits the Qur’an to memory. Despite the difficulties he encounters, the one who reads it and makes a determined attempt to retain it to memory will have two advantages.
The prayer Qiyaam Al-Layl is easy for the hafiz who has memorized the Qur’an. In addition, The Prophet (may Allah grant him peace and blessings) said that a person’s plea on the Day of Resurrection will come from both the Qur’an and fasting. This implies that the Qur’an will speak for him on that day. Refusal.
I’ll say, “Let me pray for him; O Lord, I denied him food and desires during the day.” The Qur’an will say, “O Lord, I deprived him of his sleep at night; let me intercede for him.” They will both defend him after that. Al-Albaani categorized it as saheeh in Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 3882; Ahmad, AL-Tabaraani, and al-Hakim narrated it.
Allah knows best of everyone.
Noteworthy is the existence of a weak hadeeth (da’eef) that discusses the advantages of memorizing the Qur’an. This hadeeth states that “On the Day of Resurrection,
As long as he believes that what the Qur’an allows is halaal and what it prohibits is haraam, the bearer of the Qur’an will make amends for ten members of his family “of whom deserved to enter Hell.”
Al-Bayhaqi related this story in Shu’ab al-Eemaan (The Branches of Faith) from Jaabir; al-Albaani categorized it as da’eef in Da’eef al-Jaami’.
