  1. I started to study Arabic 50 years ago. Nowadays, there are probably better ways of learning than existed back then, including apps, videos, online broadcasts in simplified or slowly spoken language, and language exchanges to find people for email correspondence and video chat. So I’ll only list some things I did, which are probably still a good idea:
  2. Get a good grounding in grammar, especially the verb conjugations. I had the privilege of studying under the late Professor Wilson Bishai at Harvard University,. He had invented a series of about 10 simple transformational rules to show how every irregular Arabic verb, except ra’a, to see, could be conjugated as if it were regular, and then transformed to the actual irregular forms. He must have published his method, possibly on the Web. It’s well worth studying, since it greatly simplifies learning the irregular verb forms.
  3. Learn the basic vocabulary used for newspapers and news broadcasts.. The point is that with less than 1,000 words, you can understand a lot of the news. Then you can practice both reading and listening to Modern Standard Arabic.
  4. Try reading some modern Arabic literature. You’ll have to learn some new words, but many authors repeat their vocabulary. Ask for recommendations.
  5. At some point, you’ll need to choose and study a spoken Arabic dialect. I chose Egyptian since I live in England. Many people choose Egyptian. You’ll have to decide what’s best for you. Be aware that it will almost be like learning a new language.
  6. I used to listen to Arabic radio broadcasts. News shows are in Modern Standard Arabic. Dial-in talk shows are usually in the local dialect. Interview shows are often in a mixture. Sports broadcasts are fun, because the sports announcers narrate the action of the game in flawless and well enunciated Modern Standard Arabic at breakneck speed. In contrast, religious sermons and early morning shows for farmers are usually spoken slowly.

You’ll probably have to pay someone to speak Arabic with you and correct your mistakes. And I was happy to complete learning with alphabet Arabic academy, this is my opinion Mr. Youssef magdu
